Finding time for fitness


Are you having trouble finding time and energy to workout? With the work hours that many of have it can be hard to find time to train. There are a couple strategies to get the most out of your time. You want to make the most efficient use of your workout time. 

If you work in an office or at home with limited equipment there are some great options. has some great little workouts posted daily. These are designed to take under 30 minutes and require minimal equipment. 

Studies has shown that most people will achieve peak performance between 2-4pm. Unfortunately most of us are not able to train at this time. After a long day of work many of us are drained and can come up with a myriad of excuses to skip the gym. This is why training early in the morning can pay off. Your performance might not be as good in the beginning as you adjust, but training at 50% is better than not training at all. 

Here are some tips for early morning training. 

1- Pack up your gym gear the night before. Most CrossFit gyms have showers so that you can freshen up before you head into work. 

2- Find a partner. Make a commitment with someone to go train together. Having someone depend on you is some great motivation. 

3- Go to sleep early. Most of us waste the final hours of our day in front of the television or computer. Go to bed a little earlier so it is easier to get up early. 

4- Set an alarm clock, or two. If you are a heavy sleeper set it far enough away so that you have to get out of bed to turn it off. 

5- Give it some time. We are not all morning people, but the body quickly adjusts and soon enough you will be one of those “morning people” who are energetic and happy before the sun comes up without the need of massive amounts of caffeine. 

It may sound selfish, but remember you have to take care of yourself so that you can take care of others. 

Television watching is not a productive pastime but most of us spend at least an hour in front of a television screen a day. Make the most of it. Grab a foam roller and a spot on the floor and roll out those tight spots while watching, or better yet, lay into a good stretch and hold it for several minutes. If you have a partner or roommate who also wants to get in on the action you can spend time mashing each other out with your foot / elbow, there are also some great partner stretches that you can do.
