This week marks the start of the Crossfit open. We have done this every year since we opened, but this year is a little different. We don’t know what to expect. The information coming from Crossfit HQ has been limited. For the lucky few in the top worldwide this will allow them to qualify for the Crossfit Games. For the rest of the 99.9% it will give us an opportunity to test ourselves and see how our training has progressed since the last open.
The workouts are released every Thursday at 8pm, we will be doing the workouts as a class every Friday for the 5 weeks of the open. When you do the workout, you will have someone counting reps and judging your range of motion to ensure you are doing the workouts to standard. This will give you experience competing under judging standards and learning how to deal with the pressure of performance. No pressure, if you don’t want to be judged, you don’t have to be. It is supposed to be for fun. The energy of the open is exhilarating, the memories are fantastic. For Crossfitters, this is the start of the season, so will will start 2019 with a bang.
The workouts scaled or not are challenging and will push your limits. Some of the movements you might not be able to do. But you will have to try. I can remember every year during the open having athletes having to push themselves physically and emotionally. This often resulted in great accomplishments such as a first muscle up, first pull up, first double under, etc. It is truly a rewarding experience you get to share with the entire community.
