How CrossFit Bytown Keeps the Floor a Place for Everyone
Walk into CrossFit Bytown on any given day and you will see a room full of people chasing a common goal: getting in the best shape of their lives. What makes our gym special isn’t just the workouts on the whiteboard; it’s the people who show up, bring their best effort, and support each other through the grind. We come from different backgrounds, professions, cultures, ages, and fitness levels. Some have a decade of lifting under their belts, others started last week. Yet on the gym floor we share a space where everyone belongs.
Treat the Space (and Each Other) Like Family
Gym etiquette isn’t complicated. It boils down to two simple rules: treat the space like it’s your own home, and treat the people around you how you’d want to be treated. 🏋️♀️
Own the Environment: If you see a rogue chalk block, a stray band, or a dumbbell left out—even if it wasn’t yours—have the integrity to pick it up and put it away.
Keep It Seamless: A clean, organized gym makes everyone’s workout smoother. No one wants to waste their rest interval hunting down a missing pair of 25s. When equipment goes back to its home, the next class can jump right in without missing a beat.
Respecting the Gear
Our equipment takes a beating so we can get stronger, but showing it a little love ensures it lasts for years to come. 💪
Kettlebells & Dumbbells: Never drop kettlebells. Period. Dumbbells should be controlled down to the ground as well, unless it is a genuine safety emergency.
Bumper Plates: Yes, rubber bumper plates are built to absorb impact, but dropping them is a safety feature, not a convenience. Dropping weights repeatedly causes unnecessary wear and tear—especially on smaller plates like the 10-lb bumpers, which bend and crack easily. If you can lower the weight safely, control it down.
The Golden Rule of Bars: Never, ever, EVER drop an empty barbell. Without plates to absorb the force, dropping a bare bar damages the internal bearings and ruins the sleeves.
When we respect the equipment, keep the floor tidy, and cheer each other on, we protect the culture that makes Bytown the best part of our day. Thanks for doing your part to keep our space safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone!
Together we build a gym that feels like family because we act like it. Small choices each session compound into big wins for the group. So let’s keep showing up with care, keep the space clean, and keep cheering each other on.
If you ever catch yourself thinking about why these details matter, remember that every chalk mark and every bar drop tells a story about the respect we have for the space and for the people training beside us. That respect is what makes Bytown a place you look forward to walking into, day after day.
Keep showing up, keep lifting each other up, and let’s move well together, Coach Everett
